Tabakoshi in Nepali language, ‘Tamba” means copper and ‘Koshi” means a river. The name originated when the stream flowing through the valley turned, in copper like colour because of the muddy stream during monsoon.
It is a scenic virgin village, nestled in nature’s lap surrounded by tea gardens on the slopes of mountains, in Darjeeling district and is a part of Gopaldhara Tea Estate.Its is located almost 5.2kms from Mirik Bazar and is an ideal place for nature lovers and a peaceful offbeat place to stay or visit .
The distance from NJP (New Jalpaiguri) to Tabakoshi is 58 km the total estimated travel time is about two and a half (2.5) hours. To reach Tabkoshi from NJP first you need to reach Mirik then from Mirik you need to drive 4 km to Tabakoshi. Drive from NJP to Siliguri then from siliguri to Mirik via Khaprail, Dudhia and then Soureni./p>
The small hamlet of the luscious tea gardens and The Rangbhang River flowing through rocky bed can be traversed throughout the year. But the best time to visit the place is during the months of August–December. And enjoy the beauty of such an unknown offbeat destination to the fullest.
